fur
fur emerges from an ongoing inquiry within the meta series into data as ontology. meta is not interested in how data is visualized, but in data as a mode of being.
In fur, data — ordinarily abstract, cool, and structural — is translated into a soft material form. Gray masses stack, bend, and lean against one another in space. They resemble rocks, body fragments, or something like a compressed or cached dataset.
Fur is a surface condition. It belongs to the body, but is not the body's structure. It covers the core, but carries no logical function. Unlike the precision, calculability, and reproducibility that data represents, fur is loose, unstable, resistant to full encoding.
When data grows fur, it is no longer only a cool structure — it acquires texture, and an appearance approaching the biological. An abstract system, here, grows an emotional skin.
On one side of the space, a pair of simplified electronic eyes quietly watches the "furry data." No body. No affect. Only the function of looking, retained — a minimal visual interface.
The cold watching apparatus and the blurred, soft, almost warm accumulation of material create a tension between them. Something like surveillance, or a silent confrontation.
If, in digital environments, the eye is gradually becoming an interface, can fur be understood as the body of data?
In a world under the continuous gaze of visual infrastructure and technical systems, fur proposes a possibility of softness — a way of existing between structure and residue.
